| NW Mountain Rescue Association Explained |
|
The NWMRT has been in existence since 1980. The team has seen huge changes in the way that the hills are used for leisure, and huge changes in their internal structure, in the type of work they are called to, and their support from the other Emergency Services. One thing that has not changed in the past 28 years, is that the NWMRT consists entirely of volunteers who train and attend call outs at their own expense. We were recently lucky enough to secure a grant from SportNI which will be paid out over the next 3 years. This funding has already allowed the team to replace two vehicles which had reached the end of their working lifespan. However, when this grant arrangement comes to an end, the team will once again have no guarantee of continued funding. The formalised training schedules we will have to put in place to justify our funding will severely impact the time available to team members to run our own fundraising events.
Membership is only £10 per year. For more information contact Joe Dowdall on 0780 3096729 or Click here to download an application form |
