Welcome

The North West Mountain Rescue Team was established in Derry/Londonderry in 1980 to provide a search and rescue service for the north west of Northern Ireland. Today the operational area has extended to include all of the the geographical boundaries of Northern Ireland, with the exception of the Mourne Mountains which is covered by Ireland’s oldest and one of its busiest teams, the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team. However, as a member of Mountain Rescue Ireland (MRI), we will support any of the 10 other Mountain Rescue Teams based in Ireland.

The Team provides a 24 hour call-out service at the request of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) requiring a high level of commitment from our team members who are expected to respond in all weather conditions, 365 days of the year. In order to respond quickly, the team is organised into 3 Sections based in Enniskillen, Magherafelt and Ballymena, and known as West, Central and East Sections respectively. The nearest Section provides an immediate response and other sections are called if more resources are required.

In an emergency or if you get into difficulties

call 112 or 999.

Ask for POLICE and then MOUNTAIN RESCUE
